DJ Grizz- The O'Jays Mix

Time for a mix from one of my favourite groups of the 70's on one of my favourite labels of the 70's.. its the The O'Jays on Philadelphia International Records! Formed in the late 50's they had some moderate success throughout the 60's (Northern Soul aficionados will attest to that!) but it wasn't until Gamble and Huff signed them to Philly in the 70's that they made it big... here's some of their best!

We start with the unmistakeable bass line of For The Love Of Money, we've the tribute to false friends everywhere in Backstabbers, the massive hit Love Train, there's the original Now That We've Found Love and we end on the sublime Darlin Darlin Baby... plus more O'Jays gold!

Enjoy Soul Lovers!

Dj Grizz- Cameo Mix

Today we feature an 80's Soul Supergroup - it's Larry 'Codpiece' Blackman and the boys.... Cameo! From their early 70's start as a big band Funk outfit through to their 80's electro-funk they had a string of big hits throughout the 1980's. Heres a selection of their best in my humble opinion.

We start the Cameo-fest with a version of the Slave funk hit, there's the much covered original of Word Up, of course we have the tune that starts a formation dance frenzy at any party its played at- Candy, we've a Jazz Funk tinged Sound Table from the late 70's and end on a Rare Groove monster in Love You Anyway.... plus more from Larry and the gang!

Have a Funky week mixtapers!

DJ Ridym - Reggae Rockers 10 Original Dancehall

Greetings mixtapers and welcome to my latest offering of Reggae Rockers showcasing the best reggae dj's of early Jamaican dancehall music. It was a time when DJ's like Yellowman, Sista Nancy, Brigadier Jerry and Charlie Chaplin were making their name on sounds systems like King Stur Gav, Metromedia and big stage events like Reggae Sunsplash.

With naughty lyrics from tracks like hotel fee and wreck-a-pum-pum this selection will take you back to those years when dancehall lyrics were fun and something worth listening too in my opinion compared to a lot of modern bling era of dancehall we hear today. Back then you couldn't DJ about the Ferrari you drove or how much champagne you drunk because everyone was broke so you had to dig a little deeper and make it fun.

So kick back with a red stripe and let the lyrics take you on a journey when dancehall was king.

One Love
1. Sister Nancy - Bam Bam
2. Brigadier Jerry - One Man Ranch
3. Yellowman - Wreck-A-Pum-Pum
4. Barry Brown - Belly Move
5. Sugar Minott & Charlie Chaplin - Four Wheel Wheelie
6. Triston Palma, Jah Thomas & Toyan - Entertainment
7. Wayne Hutton - Love Is Gone
8. Kublai Khan - Mamase Mamasa
9. General Echo & Madoo - Hotel Fee
10. Fire Fox - Give Them Reggae
11. Steve Wander - Don't Throw It All Away
12. Dennis Brown - Missing You
13. Little John - Joker Lover
