DJ Ridym - R&B Sessions 7

Songs and artists inspired by Stevie Wonder is the theme for this weeks R&B Sessions 7. Such is the influence of the great man himself that during the late 90's and early naughties there were a few decent contributions from artists such as Blaze, Glenn Lewis and more recently Reel People's Tony Momrelle.

Here's a pop quiz for you musical aficionados out there. The name of the artist responsible for track 4 has eluded me over the years and as hard as I try I've never found out who was responsible for this white label gem so mixtapers if you happen to know the name of the track and or the artist please tweet the answer or post a message up here on the blog or on mixcloud.

I'm looking forward to doing a best of Stevie mix some time in the near future so keep your eyes and ears open for that one but in the meantime mixtapers DJ Grizz and SoulNRnB will keep you in the groove.

Peace

DJ Ridym - R&B Sessions 6

Hi Mixtapers and welcome to R&B Sessions 6! This time I take you down memory lane to the 90's (or thereabouts) with some Hip Hop from Tribe Called Quest then some funky dread style from Soul II Soul with their club classic debut fairplay followed by Junior Giscombe and Chante Moore both guaranteed to get the 2 step crowd going. Caron Wheeler from Soul II Soul and Lovers Rock trio Brown Sugar continues the vibe with New York hip hop crew The Beatminerz with Open.

Three from the UK in Mica Paris, Omar and a Nine Yards track that gets the complete J Dilla makeover and is all the more better for it if I must say so myself!

I finish the mix right back where I started with another Tribe track featuring Raphael Saadiq and Faith Evans.

DJ Grizz- Shalamar Mix

I'm going unashamedly Disco for todays mix with that trio that tore up the 70's and 80's dancefloors... its Shalamar. Howard Hewitt, Jody Watley, and the body popping Jeffery Daniels made up this hit making group. Formed in 1977 and releasing their catalogue on 2 of the biggest Soul/Disco labels of the time out there in Soul Train Records and later the mighty Solar Records. Here's a selection of their best stuff....!

Kicking off with the club classic I Owe You One, includes their 1st big hit- Take That To The Bank, there's the classic ballad This Is For The Lover In You and we end with 2 tracks that were popular on the Rare Groove scene in High On Life and the great Sweeter As The Day Goes By... plus many more Shalamar goodies!

Lots of good stuff to come in 2017 from all the guys on the Mixtape Blog!

Back real soon..
