DJ Ridym - Reggae Rockers 16 Skinhead Reggae

For this weeks Reggae Rockers mix we revisit the classic Trojan treasure troves to dig out those reggae nuggets that made the label so popular in the UK during the 60's and then again in the later 70's to early 80's by the Skinheads and Rudeboys.

Tracks such as Skinhead A Bash Them, Long Shot Kick The Bucket, Guns of Navarone, Wet Dreams and Judge Dread's She's A Big Girl Now.
As my previous mix covering this genre didn't feature Judge Dread I thought I'd include one of my favourites. Judge who's earlier life as a bouncer and body guard had helped him form connections with Prince Buster and Trojan records. This then lead to the launch of his own career on the reggae scene with millions sold in Jamaica and the UK despite being banned by the BBC for his explicit lyrics.

Ska and Rocksteady tracks from Toots, Max Romeo, Derrick Morgan and Lee Scratch Perry make this a Trojan gift box for reggae fans. As always, crank up the bass and enjoy!

1. Claudette And The Corporation - Skinhead A Bash Them
2. Tony Scott - What Am I To Do
3. The Pioneers - Long Shot Kick The Bucket
4. Max Romeo - Wet Dream
5. Lorna Bennett - Breakfast In Bed

There's one from colab outfit Jericho Jackson which is essentially Elzhi of Slum Village linking up with producer Khrysis who is known for his previous work with Justus League and Little Brother. I'm definitely picking up the Little Brother vibe from this track.

Yes, Barry had a pop career with many big hits, but he was also a great writer and arranger and this mix also focus' on that side of the artist. Hoping those that always loved Barry enjoy, and those who are newer to him find out what a great soul man he was.

Stay tuned for Grizz and Ridym, ill be back pronto.

Today we have a musical tribute to a true 'character' of Funk and Soul music... Mr Rick James. Here's some of the best of Rick...
