DJ Ridym Presents: Reggae Rockers Volume 1

Dedicated to all the sound systems big or small this comp packs a mighty punch with some heavyweight roots reggae and dub classics that'll have your head bobbing to hypnotic bass lines that'd loosen many a door hinge and floorboard of dance halls back in the day.

Sounds like Sir Coxsone, Jah Tubby's, Saxon Studio, Jah Marcus, Jah Shaka, Fatman and King Earthquake to name a few are the ambassadors of roots reggae music and are still plying their trade today alongside newer sound systems like Mungo's Hifi (Scotland), Sentinel (Germany) and Iration Steppas (UK) who grew up listening to them,

Clubs like Phebe's, 4 Aces and club Noreik would often host sound clashes between sound systems challenging each other in a dub v dub clash to see who was the best and were often regarded as being on equal pegging with their Jamaican counterparts.

Dub plates or 'specials' would be the ammunition used to decide these clashes and often owners would go to great lengths to source dubs cut by artists for their respective sound systems. Such was the competition at the time that it paid to be connected to the studios as Jamaican artists would have a string of sound owners waiting in the studio wings to cut a special literally minutes after an artist has recorded their song.

So mixtapers switch on your sounds and let the bass flow as your resident dub chemist selects the tunes to make you feel irie!  Next up DJ Grizz with some soulful sounds ...Jah Bless & One Love to all - DJ Ridym
