DJ Ridym - RnB Sessions 34

Session 34 of my RnB mixes features Australian band 30-70 collective giving us that Hiatus Kaiyote vibe. Two from Leela James, broken beat from the Dego connection and Common with a nice sample from Rene & Angela classic plus loads more. Enjoy.

DJ Ridym - Reggae Rockers 26 - Tribute to Lee 'Scratch' Perry

This mix is a tribute to one of the best producer/artists in reggae the late great Lee 'Scratch' Perry. There's literally loads I've missed off here, the man has done so much since his humble beginnings at Coxsone Studio.

For those of you not familiar with the man and his works outside of Bob Marley and his stint as a DJ on Grand Theft Auto's Blue Ark Radio I would urge you to dive in. I would describe him as a musical alchemist, 'Crazy Genius', a poet and reggae's own George Clinton (good to know they did a collab before his passing.)

Hope you enjoy as always.

Shake off the lockdown blues with these rare soul nuggets!

DJ Ridym - Good Groove Mix - October 2020

Welcome blogsters to this months Good Groove Mix, I've decided on a 2 hour session this time and have included some classic 80's music covering much ground. Some of the tracks are a nod to Derek Boland aka DJ Derek B who passed away in 2009.

Derek was widely known as the first UK rapper who in the 80's had some limited success over in the states with tracks like "bad young brother" and "good groove". Sadly I would be surprised if any UK drill/grime or rap artists today would have a clue who is but I figure they owe their success in some part to him.

Prior to his music and producing career Derek was a well known DJ on UK pirate radio stations Kiss and LWR as well as playing every Sunday at Bentley's night club in Canning Town which is where I'd be every Sunday (come rain snow or shine!) listening to tracks like Thelma Houston you used to hold me so tight Lisa Lisa and Cult Jams I wonder if I take you home, Karl Anderson's buttercup and the Jackson's heartbreak hotel. Thinking about it now back then I'd be DJing Saturday but Sundays was always Bentley's night. I have no idea where I got the energy from!

The rest of the mix covers off some more nuggets from around that time/genre with some rare groove plus a couple of reggae versions one of Evelyn Kings I'm in love and the other Peoples Choice do it anyway you wanna from Jennifer Lara and Harold Butler respectively.

That's it from me and as always, stay safe until next time.

Ridym - Old Skool 80's Volume 25

Extended mixes of Patti Austin's only a breath away and Bernard Wright's who do you love feature on Volume 25 along with nuggets from The Limit, Mtume, Krystol and Loose Ends and more.

Ridym - Rare Soul Mix 33

Rare soul mix time peeps. Loads of goodies here from my old and not so new selection. Enjoy!

Ridym - RnB Sessions 29

Judging from what I can see outside my window weather wise it looks like summer is over! Anyway that doesn't stop the band wagon from rolling here at SoulnRnb HQ and to be honest more time indoors means more time spent on mixes😜

Feeling slightly nostalgic right now after watching a great documentary all about Brit Funk, the DJ's the nightclubs, the record shops and most importantly the UK bands that created it. Great watch so cheers for the heads up Mr Grizz and for those of you interested in seeing it it's called Rodney P's Jazz Funk and you can catch it on BBC 4 website I believe.
Anyway back to the here and now with some RnB and this weeks mix is a blend of not so old and not so new so kick back and stick the headphones on!
