DJ Ridym - Rare Soul Mix 26

Well it looks like we're all inspired by the sun this week here at the Soulmixtape HQ so I've plucked out some soulful rare gems to get that summer vibe flowing.

I thought I'd give a special mention to Wee's excellent "find me. love me". Talented Norman Whiteside of 1970's group Wee was serving a 37 year sentence until 2016 when he was finally released following a successful appeal. Whiteside only released the one album with Wee titled You Can Fly My Aeroplane which turned out to be a masterpiece and also includes the sublime title track as well as "try me" which you can find on my Rare Soul Mix 12.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the mix and make sure to pop back to HQ for more soulful gems.

#TheSoulMixtape BAR-KAYS

Another spotlight on an overlooked band, the Bar Kays. Larry Dodson, lead singer, narrates the story of my favorite period of theirs, the 70's and early 80's Mercury records period.

Now, the funky side of the Bar Kays has been documented in many other mixes, so I'm focusing on the soulful side of the band. You'd be forgiven for thinking some of these tracks were lost Earth Wind and Fire songs they are so good, that soulful band style arrangement so popular in the time. In fact, aside from the great vocals of Maurice and Philip, the songs on this mix play like 70's soulful EWF in thier prime.

So press play below and enjoy, Grizz and Ridym back with you this weekend with some more great music.

DJ Ridym - Jazz Funk Mix 3

Welcome Mixtapers to #3 of my Jazz Funk mixes. This time around I've snuck in a rare recording of an Alpha Mist instrumental recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios. I use the term 'snuck' loosely as the track is a whopping eleven minutes long but really doesn't feel it as it takes us on its journey. RC & The Gritz fits in well with this and then either side we have some classic jazz funk the likes of Caldera and Azymuth.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend.

1. Caldera - Sky Islands
2. Skye - Aint No Need
3. The Feel RC & The Gritz
4. Yussef Dayes & Alfa Mist - Love Is The Message (Live @ Abbey Road)
5. BT Express - Energy Level
6. Special Touch - This Party Is Just For You
7. Santth - Do You Want Me Baby Like I Want You
8. Azymuth - Dear Limmertz
