DJ Grizz- Stevie Wonder Mix

Back with a Soul Superstar this morning... Mr Steveland Morris or Stevie Wonder to his friends. From the early 60's as a Motown prodigy up to the present day Mr Wonder has given us an endless stream of acclaimed music. My Stevie Top Ten of Grizz favourites mainly concentrates on his sublime 70's period where LPs like Talking Book, Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life were must haves for any serious music aficionado.

My selection of classics start with the funky synth monster Too High, there's the massive I Wish, includes sublime cuts like As and Bird of Beauty, a early 80's ode to funkiness in Do I Do, and ends on the oft covered Creepin'... plus many more Stevie slices of genius to add to your Summer soundtrack!

Keep sharing the Soul Love mixtapers.

DJ Ridym Presents: The Foreign Exchange

Hi Mixtapers and welcome to DJ Ridym presents: The Foreign Exchange.

In what first started as an online collaboration between Dutch Hip-Hop/Electronica producer Nicolay and Hip-Hop rapper/singer Phonte of Little Brother fame The Foreign Exchange was born and has become one of the most successful RnB production teams in modern RnB music to date. The fact that these guys released works with artists such as Yahzarah, Sy Smith, Darien Brockington, Joe Scudda and Eric Roberson frequently featured on their albums as part of what is affectionately known as the FE Family is just brilliant. FE went on to extended their tentacles to include the talents of Lorenzo Ferguson aka ZO! and the rest is history.

Already successful as one third of rap group Little Brother, Phonte along with top remix producer 9th Wonder and Big Pooh were already big in the game of hip-hop (and trust me I'd need a whole new mixtape for these guys!) but to then go on and link up with Nicolay is just pure genius. Nicolay at the time was already compared to 9th Wonder such was his artistry behind a mixing desk preferring to play live instruments for most of his work with his own unique style which I can only describe as a blend of modern electonica with an 80's pop feel and hard hip-hop beats.

So about the mix...Well with so many tracks to choose from the best thing I can suggest you do is just go listen to it! These are my personal favourites but with so many to choose from it could have gone a complete different way and to some extent a different sound. That said I hope you enjoy it and come back real soon for some more from DJ SoulnRnB and DJ Grizz. Peace!

#TheSoulMixtape The Definitive Raphael Saadiq Productions

Both DJ Ridym and I have covered this mans work on this blog before. But there's so much great music.
Just concentrating on Raphael's writing and production work for others rather than his solo stuff, this is pretty much my favorite of his work and a good base for a definitive list.

Including greats like EWF, The Isleys, Lionel Richie, D'Angelo, Erykah, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Q Tip, Common, Chante Moore, Amp Fiddler, Whitney Houston..... the list goes on and on. 2 Hours of great music from one of the premier artists of the last 20 odd years.

Press play below, and stay tuned for more great music selected by Grizz and Ridym upcoming.

DJ Grizz- Uplifting Soul 2017 pt2

Its not often I post 2 'Uplifting' mixes in one year but there seems to be a lot of hate, despair and negativity out there in the world right now. What we need is more love, hope and positivity so here's my small contribution to tipping the scales to the right side... its Uplifting Soul 2017 pt2!

A selection songs to give you an audio hug starts with Donald Byrd helping us push those problems over, Jimmy Cliff reminds us its really a Wonderful World, Build an Ark prays for the whole world, Bill Withers urges a simple smile to make it better and we end with some spiritual Curtis and the Impressions from 1965. Plus many more songs to help you grab life by the lapel and say 'lets go kid' :) .

Peace and love Mixtapers
