DJ Ridym Hip-Hop Spotlight Series - Slum Village

This being the first of my hip-hop spotlight series I thought I would kick it off with one of my favorite Hip-Hip groups.

Slum Village aka J-88 was formed in 1996 by J Dilla, T3 and Baatin. The group who grew up together in Detroit found considerable success over the years most of which has come under the radar of mainstream hip-hop audience. Following the untimely deaths of J Dilla and Baatin the group have continued to produce their unique sound with artists such as Elzhi and younger brother of JDilla, Illa J.

J Dilla who is widely known as the best beat maker in the game and the most influential figure in hip-hop for his clever use of samples and creating baselines on his trusted MPC is often nothing short of genius and with a load of unreleased material available he also had to be one of the hardest working too.
