The 00's was a time where Soul and R&B flourished. Coming out of the birth of Neo Soul in the 90's, plus the reign of R'N'B in the pop charts, and the continuing popularity of Hip Hop, it was a great time for music.

So much so, that many songs got lost in the forest of releases, some went unreleased, some just didnt get the recognition they deserved. Take a trip on this mix to find some of those songs and relisten with new ears!

This weeks RnB Sessions kicks off with a mashup of Zo! and Raphael Saadiq whose latest album I'm not feeling so much which is a shame as the man could do no wrong up until this point. We got the brilliance of Mr PJ Morton giving us that Stevie Wonder feelgood sound we all miss. We got something from Rapsody keeping the fire lit for hip hop. SiR is in there with a sample of an old Billy Boyo reggae track from back in the day. Snoh Aalegra is doing good things with the release of her album so I featured one from her and also one from Little Brothers long awaited comeback album plus more so get listening!

This week the SoulnRnB spotlight shines brightly on our featured artist and Neo Soul hall of famer, Mr Bilal Sayeed Oliver. Since 2000 Bilal has been churning out the hits in his own unique vocal style which I can only describe as similar to Prince but with a wider range.

Over the years Bilal has collaborated with some of the best Neo Soul artists and producers in the game, too many to mention in fact. With five albums and one Grammy award under his belt Bilal shows no signs of letting up and we certainly look forward to more from this shining star. We at the blogspot salute your Sir!

DJ Ridym - RnB Sessions 20

This weeks RnB Session features some new works from Jazz funk outfit Jazzanova with the excellent rework of Common's Go! and Marshmellows Soulpower. The RnB scene is trully represented with the best of UK talent by way of upcoming artists Ella Mai, Cleo Sol, Mahailia and Radiant Children. There's one from colab outfit Jericho Jackson which is essentially Elzhi of Slum Village linking up with producer Khrysis who is known for his previous work with Justus League and Little Brother. I'm definitely picking up the Little Brother vibe from this track.

We got some Neo Soul from New Yorker Joanna Teters and one from the talented modern day P-Funker herself, Ms Geogia Anne Muldrow.

As played on nuwaveradio.net its Part 13 of my ongoing excursion into the crates for these Rare Groove Mixes, tracks that were undervalued, slept on or plain just missed out on release by the mainstream audience. Now, these tracks are regarded as classics by those in the know.

Erykah Badu. The first lady of "Neo Soul".

In this #TheSoulMixtape retrospective I select some of my favorite tracks from her and she describes what Baduizm is, explains the lyrics to some of her best known songs, and talks on growing up with music.

This could have gone on for hours, so apologies if some of your favorite songs are missed out, but Miss Badu is a real talent and has such a great discography to choose from, so cut me some slack! Im off for a couple of weeks, but till I return Ridym and Grizz will hold the fort down with some great music for you all.

Here in the UK, the Sun is out, England are in the World Cup Quarter finals, and its friday so lets celebrate with this Soundtrack of some of the best Upfront Soul, RnB and Hip Hop around at the moment for those with a taste for quality!

The Internet return with what's hopefully another quality LP, Chrisette Michelle and Sy Smith bring that Soulful neo Soul sound, Darien Dean gives us something to step to, plus Hip Hop is well represented by the likes of the UK's own TY, DJ Jazzy Jeff and August Greene.

 This volume of #TheSoulMixtape starts with Moonchild talking about what Neo Soul means to them and then taking a trip through some great examples of the genre before taking diversions into Reggae, Acid Jazz and straight up Soul territory!

Greats like The Isley Brothers mix with (what were) upstarts like Bilal and Van Hunt, all the way to those Acid Jazz Funkers from the UK Driza Bone and the Brand New Heavies.
