Tape 54 of #TheSoulMixtape explores the influences of that U.K Phenomenon, Broken Beat.

Whilst the mix opens and closes with Broken champions like Bugz in the Attic, Dego, Kaidi Tatham, Kenny Dope and Marc Mac, sandwiched in between are its influences with tracks spanning Afro Beat to Soul to Jazz Funk to Electro to Disco.

Tape 52 of #TheSoulMixtape kicks off with a selection of classic Rare Grooves, soul tracks that would light up a party and get everyone dancing and singing. Tunes like Rene & Angela's "Secret Rendezvous", The Jackson's "Blues Away" and Archie Bell's "Dont let love get you down" would sweet up a party nice!

Then off into some soulful hip hop, with the likes of Common and Blackstar, until finally landing in Jazz Funk and broken territory.

We've hit 50 on #TheSoulMixtape!

To celebrate, this edition starts with some 80's soul, moves to some 00's RnB and Neo Soul, takes a hip hop diversion to Timbaland territory, then melds some broken with some classic Jazz Funk.

As diverse and eclectic as ever, here's hoping you find something new to your ears.

Welcome to 2019! Hope you all had a great New Year, there's been some excellent mixes on the blog from Grizz and Ridym so thought i'd better do my bit and kick off with a Brand new #TheSoulMixtape show as featured on nuwaveradio.net

Kicking off with an Intro from German Maestro's Jazzanova and a few of their remixes/productions (Such a great catalogue of remixes and legitimate LP's from them so do check them out if they are new to you), then were into 80's/90's UK Street Soul territory with the likes of Soul II Soul, The Chimes and Kruez and others, after which Steve Arrington gives us his thoughts on "Funk" and the different types followed by some great examples including my fave Maceo and Sly Stone tunes.

Im sure the fellas will have more mixes uploaded this weekend, enjoy, and I'll be back soon.

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 2018 Part FOUR

First of two mixes from me to finish off 2018 in this holiday season, and its the last part of my picks of the best tracks of 2018. Itf eatures some great tracks from the likes of Marc Mac's Fourth Kind, the Dangerfeel Newbies latin inspired take on a Janet Jackson classic, the return of Change and a great Joey Negro Remix, Soul steppers from Conya Doss and Ari Lennox, Thundercat hooking up with Flying Lotus, plus many independent artists that are well worth a listen.

Ill be back before the end of the year with my Xmas/New Years 80's boogie mix, but until then more great music on the blog via Grizz and Ridym

Part 3 of my selections of best music from 2018 feature some favorites; Another track from the EXCELLENT Internet LP, Teyana Taylors brilliant Kanye West Produced soul tune; lots of hip hop from greats like Nas, the aforementioned Kanye, Elzhi and Black Thought; Independent niceness from Ari Lennox, Kaidi Tatham and Joanne Teters plus Jazz great Kamasi Washington and more.

DJ Ridym - RnB Sessions 15

Happy New Year people and welcome 2018!

This year begins with an hour long RnB session full of goodies varying in flavours so hopefully it will keep you interested while you plan your new years resolutions.

As usual we have artists from both the US and UK. Carl Thomas/Kanye and the Jack Herrera make the cut for this mix as well as UK's Etta Bond who we're looking out for her 1st album hopefully this year fingers crossed. Also from the UK are Mabel ft. Koju Funds and Stefflon Don with their huge dancefloor bangers. 

Broken beat provided by messrs Dego & Kaidi as it's been a while since I played one from their stables I thought this catchy B-line should start the ball rolling. Jay Z's big track from his album 4.44 plus some new material from some long-in-the-game artists such as Talib Kweli, Miles 'Lumberjack' Bonny and Amp Fiddler. 

Big props going out to Rhapsody for her album 'Leila's Wisdom' as definitely one to check out also.

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 2017 PART THREE

 

Final mix of the year and its my final pick of the new tracks released in 2017. I'ts obviously a companion piece to parts one and two, and includes some nice tracks from Gwen Bunn, Darien Dean, Jay Z and more.

Just as an aside, if your gonna pick 1 LP to purchase this year, it'd have to be The PLaylist feat Glenn Lewis with Chasing Goosebumps.  Pretty much great from start to finish, its definitely my LP of the year with close runners Moonchild's VOYAGER and Omar's LP released earlier this year.

Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a healthy and happy 2018, and see you all in the new yaer with some more music.

Tape 37 features some 80's soul classics from Glenn Jones and Funk Deluxe, Hip Hop from Mobb Deep as a tribute to Prodigy who passed when this aired on nuwaveradio.net plus some great Reggae, Soulful house (In the form of a great cover of classic 90's ballad KISSING YOU by Keith Washington) as well as some Rare Groove nuggets.

DJ Ridym - Dusty Roads 2

Welcome mixtape fans to the second chapter of Dusty Roads. This time I've decided to mix things up a bit with some world music and what better way to start the global journey than with the jazz-funk dance monster Mysteries of the World.

 Broken beat up next provided by Shokazulu and the 2000 black family. I then stick in a recent version of Bob James' classic Nautilus. 

Keeping with the flow of things we go 3 the afro-beat way before I hit you with pure confusion, an afro-latin tune from German based outfit Truby Trio featuring the talented Spanish vocals of Concha Buika.

I continue the Spanish vibe with Stevie Wonder and Bobbi Humphrey/Mizzell Brothers before taking a last minute diversion and emergency landing this mix in Brazil courtesy of Seu Jorge/Talib Kweli and Sergio Mendes feat. Jill Scott.
