DJ Ridym - Bob Marley

Born 6th February 1945, Robert Nesta Marley aka Tough Gong was the most influential reggae icon to come out of Jamaica. From his early Ska recordings with the Wailers to his later material which was more culturally roots influenced reggae icon Bob sends out a message that spiritually resonates deep in the hearts of the listener.

This mix covers Bob's transition into Rastafarianism and change in musical styles sticking to some of the original versions such as the Upsetters Lee 'scratch' Perry produced Natural Mystic.

When the Wailers split from Bob they hooked up with producer Coxsonne Dodd and formed the Wailing Wailers with Junior Braithwaite on lead vocals. When you listen to It hurts to be alone its easy to see why Coxsonne believed in him so much and why I had to include it on the mix as the only track that doesn't feature Bob.

As always I hope you enjoy this tribute to the great man himself. Have yourself an irie week and I'll catch you soon with another mix real soon.

DJ Grizz- Odyssey

Today for the mixtape treatment we have the hitmaking Lopez Sisters from New York... better known as 1970’s and early 80’s Soul Disco outfit - Odyssey! On RCA Records they had the strange distinction of being bigger in the UK throughout the 70's n 80's than their native USA and still gig today albeit with an altered line-up.

We begin with a dance floor favourite- Use It Up and Wear it Out, we’ve the massive Disco hit Native New Yorker, there's the unmistakeable bassline of Inside Out (shared with Slaves Watching You!), a big Rare Groove favourite in Don’t Tell Me Tell Her, and we end on the big ballad If You're Looking For A Way Out... plus more!

Catch you real soon Mixtapers.. much Xmas goodness coming up!!

DJ Ridym - Old Skool 80's Volume 5

Back once again with the latest volume of Old Skool 80's which brings you your latest fix of 80's tunes to make my favourites list. This week we have UK band Paradise and the late king of RnB, Pop, Soul and as many genre's as you can throw out there Mr Jackson kicking off the mix and then a Joyce Sims track that has producer Mantronik all over it followed by the next two tracks from Shannon and Krystol with a similar feel to it.

UK artist Princess who along with Jackie Graham managed to break into the UK pop charts back then with their own RnB/pop sound at a time when it was quite difficult to cross over and bridge that gap in the industry so props to them.

Real to Reel with a funny line at the beginning of the track about a girl being like an Orangutan or a linebacker I don't know which one's worse?! Yes it's easily missed, I must have heard that track a thousand times but never really checked what was said right at the beginning compared to say the jive talking at the start of Tom Browne's Jamaican funk which everyone recites whenever it's played. Strange! Anyway I finish off with Surface and Tashan as a good match and a fitting sign off to this 80's mix.

Take care until next time and look out for more from DJ Grizz and SoulnRnB. Peace.

1. Paradise - Stop and Think
2. Michael Jackson - Baby Be Mine
3. Joyce Sims - Lifetime Love
4. Shanon - Sweet Somebody
5. Krystol - After The Dance Is Trough
6. Reel To Reel - Love Me Like This
7. Princess - Say I'm Your Number One
8. Tashan - Read My Mind
9. Surface - Happy
