DJ Ridym - Erykah Meets Nai Palm

Welcome bloggers to my new mix where this time round I thought I'd shine the soulmixtape spotlight on two of my favourite artists Erykah Badu and Nai Palm. Both very talented and accomplished in their own right and both are on top of their game.

Relatively new kids on the block Nai Palm, along with her group Hiatus Kaiyote, stem from Melbourne Australia bringing a fresh new creative soul sound married with Nai Palms distinctly abstract lyrics. With 2 albums bagged already since their conception, Tawk Tomahawk and Choose Your Weapon, plus some great collaborations I can see them going from strength to strength and are definitely here for the long run.

Speaking of long runs, who better to match up for this mix than the queen of Neo Soul since back in the day and still going strong Ms Erykah Badu. Erykah brings the funk, of that there's no denying but for this mix I thought we'd stick to the Rhodes based tracks and keep it mellow.  What can I say about this lady's accomplishments that hasn't been said already? Erykah has collaborated with the best of them but none more so than J Dilla. Telphone was written by Badu the night Dilla passed away. In a recent interview Badu explained that whilst undergoing treatment for his illness Dilla would hallucinate a conversation between him and Ol Dirty Bastard where ODB would tell him what 'bus' to catch on his way to the afterlife. New Amerykah being her most recent work just shows that Ms Badu is here to stay and we look forward to new albums from her and Nai Palm real soon.

As always I hope you enjoy and we'll be back at the weekend with some more mixes so make sure you check back on the blog but until then, PEACE.
