SoulNRnB X Rumpel - Mellow Grooves

A fifth collaboration with my Mixcloud associate and musical compadre Rumpel features some soul steppers from the 70's to the 90's. From the classic to the obscure, from greats to the criminally unknown, weve got a great selection of slow jams for you all.

I've tried to compliment Rumpels choices by staying away from his expertise in 70's and 80's soul veterans and under the radar tracks by concentrating on classics with a splash of 90's in the hope that you enjoy an all round Mellow Soul experience.

Thanks to Rumpel for the excellent work, be sure to check out his blog here: inthelandofmusic.blogspot.com and also his music stream on Mixcloud here: https://www.mixcloud.com/Rumpel_Star/

DJ Ridym - RnB Sessions Volume 4

Hi mixtapers I'm back again as promised with some upfront R&B and this time its the slow jams. Terrace Martin, Davi Akei and Carolyn Malachi are all releases from earlier this year that I'm definitely feeling along with some not so recent favorites including the hypnotic Twisted by Ultra Nate and 4 Hero and run away by P-Funk inspired artist Georgia Anne-Muldrow.

Continuing the theme of this mix with an Erykah Badu-esque Moonchild track, one from Danish songstress Coco Owino of Quadron (that's her looking like a young Tina Marie on the cover by the way!) R&B queens Jill Scott, Teedra Moses and Corrine Bailey-Rae follow the same theme and help complete the mix.

Be sure to check out my RnB Sessions Volume 5 next which is where I'll sign off the year with the best of 2016 to see us into the New Year.

1. Terrace Martin - Think Of You
2. Ultra Nate - Twisted (4 Hero Remix)
3. Davi Akei - Asylum
4. Teedra Moses - Get It Right
5. Georgia Anne Muldrow - Run Away
6. Jill Scott - Crown Royal
7. Moonchild - Be Free (Jazzy Jeff remix)
8. Carolyn Malachi - Blowing Smoke
9. Corinne Bailey Rae - Been To The Moon
10. Quadron - Better Off feat. Kendrick Lamar

DJ Ridym - RnB Sessions Volume 3

Continuing the summer theme with some upfront R&B with that chilled out factor to it provided by the likes of D'angelo, Erykah Badu, Groove Theory plus a brilliant live rendition of Aaliyah's 'more than a woman' from Nia Andrews and Mark de Clive Lowe. We also have something from the talented Kendrick Lamar taken from his 2014 untitled unmastered album with the haunting vocals of the grammy winning Ms Anna Wise.

Two versions of Todd Rundren's  classic 'Hello its me' from Erykah Badu and Groove Theory and finally cranking up the beats a notch with Black Milk and Robert Glasper featuring Norah Jones completes this sublime chill mix.

Back soon but up next some more mixes from messrs SoulRnB and Grizz.

SoulNRnB's Ecstasy Mix

Another K-Tel style mix focused around the theme of Ecstasy; Slow Jams and good grooves for those romantics out there, featuring the likes of Outkast (One of the best slow jams of the decade IMO), a Jeffrey Osbourne led LTD classic, DJ Rogers Jr featuring India Arie, plus a personal fave from Cooly's Hot Box.

Might be feeling a rare groove mix next week....... until then its Grizz!

SoulNRnB's Back to my place Baby!

Oh yeah. Its that time of the year. Chocolates. Bottle of Thunderbird on the rocks. Candles from the corner shop that smell of a chemical fire when burning. Arguing over how romantic you're not. All this before the beautiful backdrop of those flowers you picked up from the Gas station on the way back from work cause you forgot it was......

Valentines day!

Make it all better with this mix that will turn your loved one into a pussycat. Some great slow jams that will make it all seem better, from the likes of Eddie Kendricks, Chrisette Michelle, Patrice Rushen, D'Angelo, Dayton and much more.

I'm away on holiday next week, so will see you in two weeks time. In the meantime, Grizz will take care of you as usual, and you can always visit my Mixcloud page for various mixes from the blog!

See you all on the flip side.

The Soul Mixtape's #Requestline - Selector Edition 2

DJ Grizz and I like to hand over the selecting reign's at soulnrnb.blogspot.com once in a while to those that know a good tune. Lorraine has pointed me in the direction of a track or two, so thought it might be cool for her to do the same for you.

Enjoy this Rare Groove, two step rarity extravaganza. Some of the tunes are so rare, they've got extra crackles!!! Thanks Lorraine for taking part!

If you think you've got the skills to deliver a playlist for a #Requestline mix, hit us up on the blog, on Twitter @SoulNRnB, or on Facebook. Social Media links are all on the sidebar.

And now.......for the music.

DJ Grizz- Soul Heartbreakers 2013

Never one to pass up a challenge... here's my take on the slow jams theme- Soul Heartbreakers. A tad too melancholy for my Mellow Grooves series perhaps but even we at the Mixtape can embrace our emotions sometimes!

Ten lingering tunes from back in the day that are choc of tear-jerking soul. We kick off with the Memphis sound & Jean Plum, then an early track from Mr 'Groove On' Willie 'Little Beaver' Hale, Billy Paul obviously got the bill for his divorce when he wrote his song on the mix, includes an Al Wilson gem and we finish with a Ruby Winters version of the Kris Kristofferson penned tune and one of break-up records of all time!

See you next week after another Mr S selection.

SoulNRnB's Slow Jams

Although Grizz and I incorporate the odd slow jam here and there in our mixes, we haven't dedicated a mix to them as a genre. Until now.

Again, Ive not put any limitations on decade or music type, just good music. Great artists like Anita Baker, Gregory Porter, Howard Johnson and many more provide the soundtrack to any romantic evening.

When it comes to this music, this mix is only the tip, of the tip, of the iceberg, so expect many more. In fact, here's a challenge. A couple of years back, Grizz and I went on a "Soundclash" of mixes in a soulful Disco vein. How about you do mix number 2 in the Slow Jam mixes Grizz? Might be fun!

Mix is down below, have a great weekend and Grizz will be back shortly. Let's see if he takes the challenge eh?
