SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions Volume 37

Quick after last weeks session of new material comes the next corking instalment.

Miles Bonny - Hes the cover star. If your thinking hes some kind of rocker, you need to take a listen. Hes produced some great solo work (See previous Street Sounds) as well as collabo's with people like Reggie B. The man needs some exposure!!

Reggie B actually features here as well, indeed, the focus is on new artists on this mix like Summer Williams and a candidate for tune of the year by a girl group called King who are newly signed to Phonte/Questlove's new label. And thats without the great "Little Brother" sounding tune from Big Pooh!!

Then there's the Cherry on top, from Reel People whose new LP "Golden Lady" is out next week I believe. An absolutely corking tune feat. vocals from Tony Mormelle, you need to hear it.

YOU NEED THIS MIX LIKE AIR!!!

Enjoy, next installment of my "Great Producer" mixes next week.

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 36

Welcome to the next installment of the Street Sounds series. Future editions contain some quality from Miles Bonny, King, Avery Sunshine, Anthony David and more.

This year hasn't got off to a rollocking start like 2010 did, but there is at least some quality out there.

Kicking off, there is a great version of a Neptunes produced JT tune from Latrelle, U City feat Eric Roberson & Jesse Boykins III (Hows that for talent studded), new blood Terrace Martin (who has a good EP out now BTW), great female vocals from Carlitta Durand and Teedra Moses, and stalwarts like Phonte and Alicia Keys.

Its almost our second birthday, so will have to have a chat with Grizz about posting something special. Ill make sure our Amazon wish list is up for you all to look at. ;)

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Specials 30 and 31 DOUBLE BILL

So, welcome to 2011!

Not been a great start for me to be honest, had tickets to the Foreign Exchange /Zo! / Sy Smith / Marc Mac bonanza hosted by SoulBeautiful at Cargo, but got sick and couldnt go. My mate went and assured me that they were the business !!

Band was tight, Phonte sounded great, had some fun with doing a reggae version of a Caribbean restaurant menu, and they produced a couple of hours of great great stuff. One of the things that gave me real heart was the his reporting back on the audience demographic: All ages, all races. Its great to see young people enjoying this music as ive got stuck in the ways of believing they all enjoy autotuned artists murdering some cheesy 80's pop songs/samples. (Stand up Will I Am!!)

So to those going next week in the UK, I'm jealous. And if you havent got a ticket...Its SOLD OUT.

But heres a little treat from the gig.

Anyhooo.....

...time to get the back to work blues out of our heads with the first of my Street Sounds double bills. Vol.30 Includes new music from Truth Hurts, a great up'n'coming UK talent Olivier Daysoul, the aforementioned Phonte on a Roddy Rod tune, plus some nice RnB from Ne-Yo and Mike Winans.

And Vol.31 has the talents of Raheem Devaughn, Novel, Jazzy Jeffs remix of Mayer Hawthornes new tune, a tune from Eric Benet's new LP (Get it, its good), and some nice hip hop feat. Talib Kweli.

Enjoy these and get them quick, as the Xmas one was deleted quick time. Arn't these mixes promoting the music?!?!?!?!?!

Grizz Back in the new week, lets be careful out there.

The Soul Mixtape's Tunes of 2010

So, before we countdown the best LP's of the year at the end of the week, here is a list of the best individual tracks of the year IMO.

Some of the artists will re-appear in the best LP category, but this list is my choice of tunes. Dont agree? Let me know in the comments! Maybe Ive forgotten something! A lot of these tunes feature in some part on my "Street Sounds Soul Sessions" mixes, so check them out there or iTunes/Amazon etc etc

Click on the picture to see a larger version of it, or alternatively, save it to your PC for leisurely perusal.

Got to mention the passing of Lady Tee today, Teena Marie was one of the first artists that got me into this music, so a sad day for soul music.......maybe she'll jam with Rick James this New Years up in Heaven's best funk emporium.

Another Double Street Sounds Sessions Weekend!

A big thank you to those that have got in touch over these mixes, Jojo, Souldigga and all of those that have posted comments. Grizz and I appreciate them, so keep them coming, and this double posting goes out to you guys and gals.

Whats in these beauties?

New Eric Benet. Collabo/remix between Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Jesse Boykins, John Legend and the Roots collabo from thier forthcoming LP, Prince, and a great remix from Dezeray Dawn. There are also loads of new tracks from loads of new artists that really need a push so that they are heard, and I hope that these mixes do that.

More from Grizz next week, and Ill be back with my next featured producer, the man featured in the picture heading up this blog in fact!!

BANK HOLIDAY SPECIAL!! SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 20 AND 21

Its the last of the summer Bank Holiday weekends here in the UK, so heres a special post to help all those with a long weekend celebrate. And if you have work on Monday, hopefully this will be a little treat.

Two upfront mixes with some great new artists as well as those a little more well known.

SSS20 includes a great slow jam from Jarrard Anthony feat Eric Roberson and Darien, another great track from the new LP from Zo! (get that LP. Definately in my end of year top 10, absolutely great), new Jazmine Sullivan and some nice hip hop featuring Talib Kweli.

As for SS21, Im liking the remix of the Dream tune featuring R.Kelly, great tunes from Rhona Bennet and the great Eric Lau, but highlight for me here is the return of  Cody ChesnuTT who produced a great organic Neo-Soul LP back in the noughties and looks like hes getting back into the limelight.

Enjoy your Bank Holiday if your off, otherwise enjoy these mixes and keep em peeled for the return of Grizz next week.

***UPDATE  10/5 ***   Looks like the powers that be have removed this mix, so its another rare one! I would have thought that record companies would appreciate this kind of promotion since its in a mix and not unlike what youd hear on radio, but there you go.

Introducing...............Maria Bentley.

Special post this weekend!

Got an email regarding a new UK artist asking me to check out some tunes.

Now, this blog is all about helping new artists, especially from the UK, but the music's GOTTA HAVE SOUL. So...took a listen, and let me tell you, I was mighty suprised.

5 top tunes, full of soul, Maria's vocals reminiscent of a more soulful Macy Gray.
"Back to me" bounces on a jazz/soul groove whilst "Do you think of me" rides on Gene Harris' "Latin Funk Love Song". "Dont wanna Talk" and "Fallouthematics" are nice mid tempo soul tunes.

So, decided to put up a special post for you all to check out with the lady's blessing, see what you think. Comments appreciated, and understand, these are demo's (Unfinished masters) so allow some of the raw production qualities.

Maria is performing live next on March 28th UKSoulJam Easter Special at Jazzcafe, London, UK.

More info on this gig is on:

Heres Maria's tunes. Enjoy and comment!
