DJ Ridym RnB Spotlight Series - Georgia Anne Muldrow
This week the spotlight is focused on Georgia Anne Muldrow. Along with co founder and husband Dudley Perkins through her record label Someothaship Connect Muldrow takes us on a journey where she composes, write's and produces an electronic, baseline heavy sound flavoured with notes of G-Funk and Dilla and infused with her unique vocal style that seems to be influenced by the likes of Brides of Funkenstein and P-Funk connection.
Ms Muldrows musical roots coming from her father the late jazz guitarist Ronald Muldrow and her vocalist mother Rickie Byers-Beckwith has built a solid foundation and platform for her creativity and naturally raw talent collaborating with artists such as the Platinum Pied Pipers, Mos Def and Erykah Badu and whilst most would compare Georgia to Erykah I strongly disagree.
Georgia is simply Georgia!

DJ Ridym - Jazz Funk 2
We had DJ Grizz and SoulnRnB bringing the heat with two killer mixes on the week where we saw the hottest day in February ever on record in the UK at a whopping 20.6C! As far as most are concerned the week just got started so no better time for me to draw the second of my Jazz Funk mixes where I dig out some firm favorites from the past as well as some newer stuff.
We have the signature production of Marc Mac/4Hero on Fourth Kinds Take Me To Your Sky and also on the Nu Tropic track. Classic Jazz Funker Movin' from Brass Construction flows on effortlessly following Incognito's The World Is Mine.
There's no semi-skimmed Jazz Funk here people only the full fat stuff with Quantic's huge production with Alice Russell on vocals reminding me of Rotary Connection and Mini Ripperton and with George Duke and James Brown along side Jap Jazz outfit Soil & Pimp Sessions is where old truly meets new.
Hope you enjoy your weekend.
1. Fourth Kind - Take Me To Your Sky
2. James Brown - So Satisfied
3. The Sunburst Band - Until The End Of Time
4. Ian Friday - Caribs Leap
5. Nu Tropic ft. 4Hero - Why Don't You Talk
6. Incognito - The World Is Mine
7. Brass Construction - Movin'
8. George Duke - For Love (I Come Your Friend)
9. Quantic & Alice Russell - Look Around The Corner
10. Soil & Pimp Sessions - My Foolish Heart

DJ Grizz- The Original Versions
Now I love a good Soul cover version as much as the next person, but what about those forgetton original Soul tunes that were overtaken by the more famous/successful cover version?! Heres a selection of great Soul cuts that came before their better known later interpretations!
First up a 1979 Prince tune covered in ’84 by Chaka, we’ve a Funk anthem that was writtern and recorded initially by Blue Eyed Soul artist Mark Capini, everyone knows Arethas- Respect but it was 1st recorded by its writer- the great Otis 2 years earlier in 1965, theres a little known Airplay recording of a hit tune that was held back by the record company so it could appear 1st on Earth Wind and Fire’s I Am LP so techinically still a cover and to end theres a the more laid backRuby Andrew song that become a high energy Disco hit some years later... plus more top 1st takes of great tunes!
Enjoy Soul people!!
