SoulNRnB/Grizz Birthday Mix!!! We are a year old!!!

DJ GRIZZ:

"We are 1 year old today and hope we've got you Soul fans in touch with some familier, some forgotten, as well as introduced you to some less well known nuggets.

For my contribution to this days mega post I've chosen some classic rare groove tracks. These are the tunes that, back in the days when I was still playing out at parties and bars, I always carried in my record box and were guarrenteed to get a good reaction from the Soul/Rare Groove afficianados in the crowd.

Included as my re-post choice I've chosen the 'Live Mix' from SoulNRnB's collection. Tunes that you know and love but delivered in that special way only a live performance can give.

Enjoy the big post and I'll be back Tuesday week on 11th May (give you all a chance to digest this Soul feast).

Grizz   "

SoulNRnB:

"Well, a year has just flown by. We intended this blog to introduce people to some new and old sounds, to expand thier horizons a little, and to be the most soulful site around.

I love Black Music. Not that MOBO/B.E.T , Autotune ridden stuff people call RnB today. The real stuff. Wether it be 70's Soul to Neo Soul, Jazz to Lovers, House to Hip Hop. If its soulful, we love it on this blog.

There are great artists out there today making great music, and there are artists that have been forgotten that you need to know about.

My New mix here showcases some modern tunes of various styles that may have missed your radar. Check them out.

Included aswell as my repost is Grizz's Uplifing Soul mix that does what it says on the tin. Great soul music that stirs the soul.

So, enjoy the 4 mixes in this 1 post, 2 old and 2 new. A great place to start if your a new visitor, a little treat for those that have been with us for the last 12 months.

More Soul, great producers, House, Street Sounds and various specials coming from me soon.

***UPDATE  10/5 ***   Looks like the powers that be have removed this mix, so its another rare one! I would have thought that record companies would appreciate this kind of promotion since its in a mix and not unlike what youd hear on radio, but there you go.

SoulNRnB's Soulful House THREE

Its been a good 6 months or more since I ventured out into the world of Soulful House music. To re-iterate: This aint the sample laden, boom boom boom stuff you hear pumping out of souped up GTI's with blacked out windows.

This is the good stuff. The soulful stuff.

Lots of real instruments, respect for soul, funk and disco music past, and some great great vocalists.

This edition features work from Bah Samba, Stephanie Cooke, Louie Vega and Erykah Badu, Kenny Bobien and more.

Even a real musical snob like our very own Grizz cant help but show respect to some of the soulful house tunes Ive put before him, so give them a go.

Only a couple of weeks before our birthday special, so stay in touch.

DJ Grizz- Soul Niceness Vol 13

Well its the 13th April and I'm posting Soul Niceness Vol. 13- you can tell I'm not superstitious. There's nothing unlucky about this mix though, chock full of hard to find soul goodies. The Headhunters, Ashford and Simpson and Norman Weekes, with what could've been a long lost Roy Ayres classic if you didn't know better, all feature. Also listen out for the Rhythm Makers, who were an early incarnation of GQ and who used the tune again in a later big hit!

As Mr SoulNRnB said, its only a couple of weeks until our 1st birthday and a mega post to celebrate. But still more good stuff to post before then so don't be a stranger.

SoulNRnB's Version Excursion Special

A while back Grizz did some version excursions on some classic tunes.

Thought I'd chip in this week with a special on the same track, with some up to date Artists.

Personal faves here include Raheem Devaughn's excellent take on Prince's "I would Die for you", Leela James incredible version of "Dont Speak"....infact they are all great versions....artists include Eric Roberson, Musiq, Jay Dee, Alicia Keys and more.

Enjoy, and get ready for something special on our 1 year birthday in a few weeks!!

**** Update 15/07/10 ****

Seems this is another mix that has been removed for "violation of terms of service". Hard to see how a mix promoting artists does that, but I dont really think the people complaining about these mixes understand too much about what they are and what they do.

Anyhow, another mix to file under the rare category now!

DJ Grizz- 60's Soul Vol.3

It's a bank holiday here in the UK so before I descend into complete laziness for the rest of the day, its time to share some good music. I'm back to the 1960's once more and this mix includes Frankie Beverly in his pre-Maze days, The Temptations, a Northern classic from Sidney Barnes and some Archie Bell and the Drells from 1969, prior to joining Philly Records in the 70's.

Enjoy and I'll be back on Tuesday next week!

SoulNRnB's Street Sound Sessions Volume 12

Its a long Easter weekend here in the UK, so thought it might be time to bring us up to date with some new music. Lots of good stuff here, with a little more soulful Hip Hop influence.

Little Brother are releasing a new (And FINAL...) LP soon and we have a track from them. Dont do it Phonte and Pooh!!  A Jay Dee produced tune from Ishe and a track by Basic Vocab all show that Hip Hop isnt quite as dead as the Lil Waynes, Soldier Boys and like would like you to think.

Some good RnB also included from Donell Jones and Latif round out a nice mix you can bang out the car (Or your earphones on the bus!) with pride.

Happy Holidays to those who are celebrating, and Grizz should be back with you with some 60's flavour next week.

Tracklist in comments as always!
