SoulNRnB Presents: Nu-Soul Volume 3

Whilst Many of the blogs are comemorating the passing of Michael Jackson with lots of his output, we will post something up to date for now.

I was thinking of maybe compiling a special version excursion of Michael Jackson Songs, and maybe Ill put that up in the next week or so.

But for now, here's volume 3 of my "streetsounds" alike compilation of the best modern soul.

A great Van Hunt "unreleased" tune, Raheem Devaughn doing Donny Hathaway, and Mr Al B Sure (who's claim to fame is that he made the last modern record that DJ Grizz purchased....and that was Nite and Day!).

SoulNRnB's Rare Groove Special Volume 5

Volume 5 of my Rare Groove Comp's, showcasing some of the lesser known tunes from the 70's and 80's.
Included in this Edition:

David Williams great 80's dancer "When your dreams come true"....Monsters from Brass onstruction, Evelyn King and Gary Bartz...and a couple personal faves from RB Hudmon and Jewel.

I dont think that this comp will be getting the same response as Grizz's Lovers Rock mix (Hes doing a better job than Dr Ruth although hes not as good looking) but hope it wets your musical taste buds!

DJ Grizz- Lovers Rock Special

A slight departure from the Soul, Rare 'n' JazzFunk now, although that 70's USA Soul influence can be heard here. A mix celebrating some of that old time Lovers Rock, the UK's big contribution to the Reggae scene. Hope you enjoy.... (I know Sweet T will be swaying to this one !!)

DJ Grizz- Mizell Brothers Special

For those that don't know, the Mizell Brothers (Larry and Fonce to their mates) were producers and song writers that were responsible for producing, writing and appearing on some of most sublime Jazz-Funk albums of the 1970's. Although their output wasn't prolific- they were credited on only around 15 LP's throughout the 70's, the artists they worked with and material they put out was amongst the best of its time.

For a complete bio I bow to other Soul and Jazz sites out there -'Soulwalking' has a particularly good one, but please enjoy this mix of some my favourite tunes!

SoulNRnB's Rare Groove Special Volume 4

From the look of the numbers of downloads, these compilations seem very popular, so am posting another volume.
This volume has a few of my favourites on it, such as tracks from Hot and Windy City, but there are also classics from Aretha and Jean Wells and 80's tunes from the Mtume/Lucas produced Sunfire and JP Rogers Jr.

Gettin' Down With DJ Grizz

I came across a very old TDK 90 tape the other day with a scribbled, handwrittern tracklist which got me reminiscing about the original mixtapes back in the day.

As anyone the wrong side of 35 (and I'm well past that!!!) and into music will tell you , before the days of MP3's, burning software, CD recorders and so on there was the cassette deck and the turntable. If you wanted to make some music for the car, to put into your ghetto blaster or just to impress a girl or your Soul-head mates you made a mixtape. Compared to burning a CD or loading your ipod today, it was a real labour of love:- pulling out all the records out you wanted, setting up the track, pausing the tape after every tune, changing the vinyl and going again- your average 90min tape took 2-3 hours plus!

And as for finding the music in the 1st place!!? If you were into collecting your Soul and JazzFunk in the early 80's and lived in and around London it normally meant a trip to Soho to visit Groove Records or Record Shack for the latest stuff. Then, in later years Soul/Dance music shops, like JIF's in Chadwell Heath or Music Power in Haringey sprung up and, if you really got into it, you drove around the South East visiting 2nd hand record shops and record fairs!! None of this 'google it' and press download...

I dunno- kids today don't they're born LOL!!

Anyhow its in the spirit of the 'mixtape' we share our old and new goodies on this blog!
And sometimes even old collectors like us like to throw off our anoraks and 'get our groove on' so heres a selection of old Jazz Funk and Boogie tunes to do just that to.

SoulNRnB and Gimmesomesoulfood Presents: Urban Soul

Its time for something more up to date.

I know alot of people are missing the Gimmesomesoulfood Blog and I'm happy to say that weve got together to compile an unmixed compilation of modern soul and RnB. Personal track selections from both of us including pre release and unreleased tracks that we hope will whet your appetite and make you support the artists!

I remember collecting the UK Street Sounds compilations back in the day (A long time ago) and hearing tracks from artists I never heared of. This made me seek out other stuff from them, which in turn exposed me to more and more music. I hope that the mixtapes and comps here will do the same for you too!!

So, many thanks to Gimmesomesoulfood, I hope this is the first of many collabo's...and if you download this please leave us some comments!!
