SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 118

Welcome to Vol.118 of our Street Sounds Mixes.

Some great music on this. The UK's own Divageek team up with one of my favorite vocalists, Lalah Hathaway for a massive tune. then there's one of my Jazz tracks of the year from Eddie Moore and the Outer Circle who have an excellent LP out on Bandcamp and iTunes you should check out.

Veterans Nile Rogers and Vesta Williams make an appearance, as does Daru Jones with a track from his new LP produced by Marc Mac. Top it off with some soulful Hip Hop from Tanya Morgan and MED and youve got an eclectic new mix.

Track list, as always, on the Mixcloud widget below. Looking forward to Grizz's Rare Groove selection at the weekend. In the meantime gonna carry on working on that End of year review that Grizz hinted at last post. We've got some big names picking their faves of the year again. Stay tuned!!

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 117

Were only weeks away from Xmas, and the last few releases are gonna be with us over the coming weeks.

Big releases recently are the new Robert Glasper "Black Radio 2" LP which is excellent and we feature a track with Faith Evans on vocals. Another biggie is the new Amel Larrieux LP and we feature a great tune from that too.

There's a great Opolopo remix of a track from Omar's "The Man" LP, the UK's own Tony Momrelle hooking up with Reel People again for "Fly", plus more big names like Leela James and Anthony Hamilton, Georgia Ann Muldrow's project  under Pattie Blingh & the Akebulan plus so much more.

Take a listen below, tracklist on the Mixcloud widget.

I'm currently prepping our annual end of year Review for the blog and have been talking to a certain Carl Mcintosh of Loose Ends fame and wanted to give a heads up to our UK readers that Loose Ends will be hitting Manchester 9th, West Midlands 15th, an acoustic show in Tufnell Park on the 23rd and Hull 29th, all November. Fans of "A little Spice", "Hanging on a string" or "Gonna make you mine" take note!

Grizz back at the weekend, see you guys and gals next week!

DJ Grizz- Soul Heartbreakers 2013

Never one to pass up a challenge... here's my take on the slow jams theme- Soul Heartbreakers. A tad too melancholy for my Mellow Grooves series perhaps but even we at the Mixtape can embrace our emotions sometimes!

Ten lingering tunes from back in the day that are choc of tear-jerking soul. We kick off with the Memphis sound & Jean Plum, then an early track from Mr 'Groove On' Willie 'Little Beaver' Hale, Billy Paul obviously got the bill for his divorce when he wrote his song on the mix, includes an Al Wilson gem and we finish with a Ruby Winters version of the Kris Kristofferson penned tune and one of break-up records of all time!

See you next week after another Mr S selection.

SoulNRnB's Slow Jams

Although Grizz and I incorporate the odd slow jam here and there in our mixes, we haven't dedicated a mix to them as a genre. Until now.

Again, Ive not put any limitations on decade or music type, just good music. Great artists like Anita Baker, Gregory Porter, Howard Johnson and many more provide the soundtrack to any romantic evening.

When it comes to this music, this mix is only the tip, of the tip, of the iceberg, so expect many more. In fact, here's a challenge. A couple of years back, Grizz and I went on a "Soundclash" of mixes in a soulful Disco vein. How about you do mix number 2 in the Slow Jam mixes Grizz? Might be fun!

Mix is down below, have a great weekend and Grizz will be back shortly. Let's see if he takes the challenge eh?
