The selection includes some UK funk from 1982 in Touchdowns - Ease Your Mind, there's classics from Curtis Hairston and The Controllers, a saucy number from Blue Magic- better known in the 70's for ballad hits like Sideshow, and we end on a model 80's tune from Jazz Funk maestro Tom Browne.. and there's more!

We've a Shalamar gem and a Lee Garrett hit to top and tail an otherwise hard to find selection of Soul including the Lost Generation, some post 'Action Speaks Louder Than Words' Chocolate Milk, Debbie Taylor and Barry White plus more grooves subject to my anti static cloth!

DJ Grizz- Soul Jazz Versions 2015

My first foray into the world of cover versions for 2015 and what  a Smorgasbord we have today... something for everyone!

It starts with a Jackie Wilson big band take on Stevie, there's a disco version of an Ian Dury popular track, Phil Upchurch jazzes up a Shuggie Otis cut (although more famous in the hands of the Bros Johnson), jazz funk legend Harvey Mason gives us a recent smoothed out version of a Donald Byrd anthem, Rashann Patterson sings the Blow Monkeys and 2 reggae tinged version excursions to finish on!

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 138

Back from my Holidays, had too much new music in my inbox to not put out the latest Street Sounds Sessions, so here goes!

Cover star Robert Glasper has an album of Cover's called "Covered" coming out later in the year, but in the meantime here's the third release in his tip of the hat to the great Dilla; SoulPersona and Princess Freesia are back with a new LP called "Fast Forward" and its a must purchase for those who like their Soul 80's stylee! I feature one of my fave cuts, "I will be with you".

Cee Lo is back to, featuring a Sample off Bob James' great theme to Taxi in "Taxi Cab Confessions". Kaidi Tatham remixes a track from the great Ruth Kovela LP, plus new music from Carmen Rogers Feat. Anthony David, Kenny Lattimore and so much more.

Ill be back with the next White Label Mix next week, thanks to DJ Grizz for holding things down in my absence! Hes back at the weekend!

Back to the dusty crates for a helping of old Soul n Rare Grooves... its Soul Niceness 87!

We kick off with a late 60's bubbler from Jackie Wilson, there's a 1978 goodie from Switch, a Rare Groove anthem from Foxy, something mellow from the Manhattans, and we end with the original cut of a much covered gem from Bobby Womack (who sadly passed last year just weeks before being due to headline a festival at my local park in Walthamstow!!).

SoulNRnB is back next week from his family holiday... so be gentle with him! I'll be blowing the dust off more tunes next weekend!

Time to feature those latter day bands that still keep the hard Funk and pure Soul torch burning- its New Funk Volume 19.

Its a Funk journey around the globe starting in Japan with the madcap Zainichi Funk, NY's Ray Lugo comes next, then we have Australia's The Bamboos, Canada's The Quartertones, the excellent USA's funk-jazz of Soulive to mention just a few! So get your shuffle on!

I do believe Mr S and his funky brood are away in sun this week but I'll catch you next weekend back in Rare Groove and dusty shelf Soul territory!
