SoulNRnB's 80's Jams

Summer has finally arrived in the UK, and through most of Europe I hear, 40 degree temperatures running rampant, so what better than some feel good, upbeat 80's jams to compliment your cocktails, ice lollies and sunglasses!

Here are some of my favorite, lesser known, 80's jams, all reminders of that time to put a spring in your step and a smile on your face. Artists like Beau Williams, Angela Bofill, Randy and the Gypsies, McFadden and Whitehead and The Jones Girls rub shoulders with smaller names that you might have missed. This really is feel good music, just in time some of you might say!

Grizz back over the weekend, be sure to check out some of the recent mixes from both him and Ridym, they've been great!

DJ Ridym RnB Spotlight Series - Maxwell

This week the RnB spotlight shines on the talented musician, singer, songwriter, producer and 2010 winner of best male vocal performance with 'pretty wings'  Mr Gerald Maxwell Rivera aka Maxwell.

Often tagged as the next Prince or the modern day Marvin Gaye, Maxwell's contribution to RnB in the 90's was so significant that it helped shape the Neo Soul genre that became popular to this day. With the release of his excellent first album 'Urban Hang Suite' in '96 along with the help of legendary soul artist Leon Ware on production the album is widely regarded as the catalyst for the Neo Soul sound we know and love today.

Along with artists such as Erykah Badu, Floetry, D'angelo and as far back as Tony, Toni, Tone in the 80's any Neo Soul mixtape worth listening to should always feature a Maxwell track and that's the law somewhere!

As always enjoy your weekend peeps and check in for some more great mixes here at the soul mixtape HQ.

2. Sumthin' Sumthin'
3. Dance With Me
4. Get To Know Ya
