DJ Ridym - Brit Funk & Rare Groove 4

We've got the newest instalment of my Brit Funk & Rare Groove mix for you beginning with an unreleased Jamiroquai studio session that's brings the funk and sets the tone nicely for the rest of this mix.
We go on a version excursion with F.B.I's version of J.R Bailey's Love Love Love, a track that happens to be a firm favourite with yours truly and DJ Grizz who previously included Welsh crooner Tom Jones take on the classic among a few others on previous mixes. Elkie Brooks' rendition of the Rising Cost Of Love is in there too.

I've dug out some UK Jazz Funk nuggets from Morrissey Mullen, Hudson People, The Warriors, Savana and one of the hottest artists to come out of the UK to break through to the US audience Miss Mica Paris.
Over the years Mica has collaborated with the likes of Prince, Anita Baker, Natalie Cole, Will Downing, James Ingram, Guru and Omar to name a few and for me certainly worthy of holding up the Union Jack for everything that represents Soul and RnB here in the UK over the years.

Ignore the freezing weather we're having, have a nice weekend and remember to check out more mixes right here from DJ Grizz, SoulnRnB and myself right here on the Soul Mixtape. Peace.

1. Jamiroquai - Friends
2. Hudson People - Trip To Your Mind
3. Savana - Never Let You Go
4. Morrissey Mullen - Come And Get Me
5. Elkie Brooks - Rising Cost Of Love
6. The Warriors - Destination
7. Mica Paris - I Should've Known Better
8. FBI - Love, Love, Love

DJ Grizz- The Temptations

My second 'artist' mix in a row but I couldn't let the passing of Dennis Edwards go without a nod to his and the bands contribution to Soul music. The 'Temps' were one of the greatest vocal groups on Motown (and therefore one of the greatest vocal groups ever...period!). The mix covers the both early 60's David Ruffin years before Dennis took over on lead vocals in '68, through their psychedelic Soul phase of the early 70's and into their funky 80's catalogue.
We've Temptations classics like Papa Was A Rolling Stone, My Girl, Just My Imagination, a dance floor favourite in Treat Her Like A Lady and end on the sublime Hey Girl plus many more 'Temp' treats to enjoy.
Stay Soulful Mixtapers!

DJ Ridym - Lovers Rock 6

With Valentines day fast approaching I think its about that time for a Lovers Rock mix so grab your partner and lets get to it!

First up we have some soulful melodies from Carol Thompson, Arema, Tinga Stewart and Ruddy Thomas. Ruddy had several hits during his career which ended with his passing in 2006 one of which was a UK number one hit cover version of the classic Manhattans track just one moment away.

Also featured on this mix are multi-talented Producers, writers and singers Carlton Livingstone and Sugar Minott, who have had a string of hits during the 70's and 80's both in Jamaica and abroad.

Louisa "Markswoman" Marks was one of the pioneers of the Lovers Rock scene scouted as a youngster by the legendary sound system owner Sir Coxsone who at the time was hosting a popular weekly talent contest at the Four Aces nightclub in Dalston, East London.  Louisa who was singing with Dennis Bovell's Sufferer sound system accepted Llyoddie Coxsone's invitation and went on to win ten weeks in a row which then kick started the Lovers Rock genre and opened up the doors for artists like Carol Thompson and Janet Kay.

So kick back with the one you love and take a trip down memory lane with the coolest Lovers Rock selection from yours truly and I'll be back real soon.

One Love 🔯

1. Carol Thompson - Just A Little Bit
2. Ruddy Thomas - Key To The World

4. Tinga Stewart - I'm Gonna Fall In Love
5. Carlton Livingstone - Let Me Love You
6. Sugar Minott - My Love Is True

DJ Grizz- Chic Mix

A mix today from one the most successful Soul-Funk-Disco bands of the 70's and 80's - Chic. With the backbone of guitarist Nile Rodgers, bassist Bernard Edwards and the original drummer Tony Thompson plus a host of session musicians and singers they were the sound of late 70's Disco. Their sound was in demand as backing musicians for Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Carly Simon and others and they must be one of the most sampled groups in recent history.
We've all the classics like Forbidden Lover, I Want Your Love and Good Times, there's their instrumental cut of Shelia B's Spacer, the classic sample in Soup For One and ends on a wind down nugget in Warm summer Night... plus more Nile and Bernard to enjoy!
Catch you down the road Soul lovers!
