DJ Grizz- World Groove Mix

And now for something a little different! This mix has my usual ingrediants of mainly 70's and 80's Soul, Rare Grooves and Jazz Funk but this time I've searched my boxes high and low for tunes from parts of the globe you wouldn't always associate with quality Soul/Jazz Funk.

We have a French version of a rare groove classic, some top notch Jap Soul n boogie, funk slices from Mexico and Kenya, a Jamacian reggae band going Soul, a Brazilian Earth Wind and Fire inspired band, and 2 modern soul contributions from Sweden and New Zealand!
Tracklist (and countries) in comments. SoulNRnB up next and I'll be back in a week with some Valentines flavoured old school mellowness.

DJ Grizz- Soul Niceness 19

Another year, another Soul Niceness mix and the quality remains as high as you've come to expect. Your Soul Mixtape hosts still have loads in our collections to share over the coming year so keep checking in.

Niceness 19 includes a Bobby Womack classic, Gladys Knight, an often sampled Mel and Tim tune and the usual stonking good tracks from some lesser known artists to satisfy the 'diggers' and appreciaters of quality amongst you.

SoulNRnB will hitting his weekend slot and I'll be back afterwards with something a little different.

SoulNRnB's Great Producers 12: Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins

Darkchild.

So whats the producer of Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls, Britany Spears and more doing on this blog?

Well, through the 90's and 00's Mr Rodney Jerkins produced some real soulful stuff. He started recording hits almost from the get go, with big names such as Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston and more.

But there was those few years at the end of the 90's and through the start of the 00's that Darkchild produced some great soulful pop/rnb. This mix focuses on that time, and has a couple of lesser known Gospel tunes the man produced.

Like others I've discussed in this series, the man had a sound. You knew a Darkchild production, and for a time there, us soul lovers liked it.

Grizz back with you next week, have a soulful weekend.

DJ Grizz - Soulful 80's Vol.9

January can be a bit depressing with all the excitement of Xmas & New Year over, miserable weather and a long way til the summer holidays. You can rely on us at the Soul Mixtape to provide some corking stuff to keep you going though.

Soulful 80's Vol.9 has quality tunes from Starpoint, Kwick, Major Harris and the Stone City Band. Plus something from left field -a surpising hit on the the US 80's Soul/Dance charts from the UK's Chaz Jankel who was London rock bands Ian Dury and the Blockheads keyboard player! Don't say this blog isn't educational as well!

See you next week.

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Specials 30 and 31 DOUBLE BILL

So, welcome to 2011!

Not been a great start for me to be honest, had tickets to the Foreign Exchange /Zo! / Sy Smith / Marc Mac bonanza hosted by SoulBeautiful at Cargo, but got sick and couldnt go. My mate went and assured me that they were the business !!

Band was tight, Phonte sounded great, had some fun with doing a reggae version of a Caribbean restaurant menu, and they produced a couple of hours of great great stuff. One of the things that gave me real heart was the his reporting back on the audience demographic: All ages, all races. Its great to see young people enjoying this music as ive got stuck in the ways of believing they all enjoy autotuned artists murdering some cheesy 80's pop songs/samples. (Stand up Will I Am!!)

So to those going next week in the UK, I'm jealous. And if you havent got a ticket...Its SOLD OUT.

But heres a little treat from the gig.

Anyhooo.....

...time to get the back to work blues out of our heads with the first of my Street Sounds double bills. Vol.30 Includes new music from Truth Hurts, a great up'n'coming UK talent Olivier Daysoul, the aforementioned Phonte on a Roddy Rod tune, plus some nice RnB from Ne-Yo and Mike Winans.

SouNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 30

And Vol.31 has the talents of Raheem Devaughn, Novel, Jazzy Jeffs remix of Mayer Hawthornes new tune, a tune from Eric Benet's new LP (Get it, its good), and some nice hip hop feat. Talib Kweli.

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions 31

Enjoy these and get them quick, as the Xmas one was deleted quick time. Arn't these mixes promoting the music?!?!?!?!?!

Grizz Back in the new week, lets be careful out there.

DJ Grizz- Mellow Versions Mix

After all the excesses of the last couple of weeks I thought its time to kick back and recharge the batteries. To help you chill here's my 1st mix of 2011- a Mellow Groove Version Excursion special. 5 chilled out old school Soul tracks along with their reggae cover counterparts.

The mix includes The Detroit Spinners, The Isleys, John Holt and a very interesting interpretation of a Norman Connors wind down classic by Freddie McGregor.

We're back in our normal slots so SoulnRnB will be up at the end of the week and I'm back next Monday/Tuesday. Hope 2011 is a good one for all our followers!
