DJ Ridym Presents - Reggae Rockers Volume 2

Going in double hard this week with numero 2 of the Reggae Rockers mix. Mixing it up from the get-go with a short intro from Japanese Jazz Funker's Jazztronik, dedicated to the Japanese crew out there that have been following this series.
Getting straight to it with Jacob Miller's keep on knocking and the no:1 roots rockers anthem of all time PROPHECY.  No sound system worth their weight in bass could declare there love for reggae and not have this speaker popping classic blessing their dance hall at the end of the session. Warning: Serious Bass alert!

Sir Coxsone gives us homeward bound followed by the classic Babylon made popular in the scene from the film 'Babylon' where JAH SHAKA plays this dub plate in a sound clash against the upcoming challenger JAH LION.

Continuing the mix with some more ear bleeding basslines before signing off  just as hard as it began with Dillinger at King Tubby's in DUB.

Next up DJ Grizz & SoulnRnB will be back to whet your soulful appetite but until then stay blessed mixtapers.

1. Jazztronik - Click Clock (Big-up Japan crew)
2. Jacob Miller - Keep On Knocking
3. Fabienne (Fabian) Mirawada - Prophecy
4. Sir Coxsone Sound - Zion Bound
5. Johnny Clarke - Babylon
6. Rebel Regulars & General Saint - Jah Love
7. Cornell Campbell & Ranking Dread - Bandulu
8. Don Carlos - Nice Time (Late Nite Blues)
9. Horace Andy - Cus Cus
10. Dillinger at King Tubby's - Dub

SUMMER SPECIAL 2: #TheSoulMixtape Tape 12-14 as heard on Nuwaveradio

OK, Summer, at least in the UK, has not really got started. So lets give this another go. Three more ~TheSoulMixtape shows as featured on nuwaveradio.net and showcasing tracks both new and old, from a range of genres of Black Music, from the 70's till today.

First up, classics from The Gap Band, Wally Badarou and Jermaine Jackson nuzzle up against Dennis Brown, Blakai and....... Liza Minelli?? Trust me, its a tune.

This one has a little tribute to one of our all time heroes, Mr Steve Arrington, as well as hip hop from Phife and Homeboy Sandman, some cool rarities and some Soulful House from Reel People.

And Tape 14 features new music from Kaytranada, Maxwell, and Miles Bonny, alongside Sir Coxsone, Dexter Wansel, Dilla, New Sector Movement, and more. Sounds mad right? Proof is in the listening!

Ill be back in two weeks, but im sure Grizz and Ridym will have your back till then. My THIS IS RARE GROOVE 4 is currently playing on Nuwaveradio, so check it out.

DJ Grizz- Bobby Womack Mix

Todays mix is a tribute to the late great Bobby Womack, the man with the gritty soul vocals. A career that covered almost 60 years from 1st performing with Sam Cooke, then his early 1960's group The Valentino's, through extensive solo success in the 70's and 80's to an almost revival of his talents just before he passed in 2014 (just weeks before he was due to play at a Festival in East London just up the Road from me!!).

Here's a personal choice of my favourite Bobby tracks including soul steppers party favourite Daylight, club classic How Could You Break My Heart, I Can Understand It also recorded with The Valentinos, the often covered Welcome Stop On By, and a real nugget in Give It Up.

Catch you soon!

DJ Ridym - Old Skool 80's

Hi mixtapers this week I'm bringing you some of the biggest R&B anthems from the 80's to sing along to.

The 80's? ...New Jack Swing had us doing the running man :( and The Time had us doing the bird but we forgive them because they also gave us Guy and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. We dressed baggy and colorful and couldn't get enough of those well rounded electronic baselines that became the signature of the 80's.

So kick back and enjoy until next time, next up SoulnRnB and DJ Grizz

1. Evelyn King - I'm In Love
2. The System - I Just Wanna Make You Feel Good
3. Thelma Houston - You Used To Hold Me So Tight
4. Howard Johnson - Stand Up
5. Affair - Please Don't Break My Heart
6. Sahara - Love So Fine
7. Rose Royce - Magic Touch
8. Loose Ends - Hanging On A String

11. Roberta Gilliam - All I Want Is My Baby
