Another SoulNRnB Soul Show....LIVE!
The last live mix was such a success, I had to run through another with some more great performances.
This "imaginary concert from Soul Heaven" includes Dwele and Roy Hargrove, the late great Marvin Gaye, Raphael Saadiq's great Live version of Just Ray, Anita Baker with "Same Ole Love", John Legend and the great Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson with "Its your World" (Gil has a new LP coming out BTW).
One Concert I surely would have paid big bucks to see!
Another SoulNRnB Soul Show LIVE!
Grizz back with you after the weekend.

DJ Grizz- 'Hi' Records Mix
A slight detour from my intended post but since the passing of the great writer and producer Willie Mitchell a week or 2 back I've been having a bit of a Hi Records retrospective at home. Willie's Hi Record label (and house band- the Hi Rhythm Section) was responsible for that distinctive early 70's sound heard on tunes by artists such as Al Green, Ann Peebles and Syl Johnson.
Here's a mix of some of my favorite quality tunes from that label during their golden 1970's period. Southern Soul at its best!

SoulNRnB's Street Sounds Sessions EIGHT
This Blog is like a Soul music time machine! In the last few weeks weve gone back to the 70's and 80's, moved on to the 60's, and now were going bang up to date and even off into the future!! (Without the DeLorean)
Up to date tunes with the Pop/Rnb turned down a bit and the soul a notch up. Big names like Usher and Mary J Blige sit alongside newbies like Sam Hook and Jenson Vaughn. Some old school vocals from Charlie Wilson and an absolute corker from Jaheim giving some of that soulful vibe.
Stick it on your Ipod and get bang up to date.
Grizz back with you soon, and if all goes well that new contributer that I first spoke about nearly 7 months ago should be with us providing some heat. Hes been way laid by some personal issues I.E Lazyitis, but should be with us shortly!

DJ Grizz- 60's Soul Mix Vol.2
I'm a man of my word and as promised another installment of my favorite 60's soul tunes. Bobby Bland, Booker T, early Ohio Players and the original of the often covered Breakfast in Bed are all in there. Next- SoulNRnB's weekend post (after pulling that Jacksons gem out the bag) then I'm back with some reggae goodness.

DJ Grizz- Soulful 80's Vol. 5
Mid January already and Xmas seems a long way away. What a grind it is to drag yourself into work this time of year (not sure work gets any better in Summer mind you, just feels better).
Time to escape back and re-acquaint ourselves with some soul goodies from the 1980's with stuff from Harold Melvin, Linx, Charles Earland and others. After Mr SoulNRnB's weekend tunes, I've more 60's and reggae mixes coming up in the next few weeks.

SoulNRnB's Great Producers 4: Jam & Lewis
So Kashif had BT Express, Mr Saadiq had Tony Toni Tone, Marc Mac has 4Hero, and Messers Jam and Lewis started off as part of Prince Rogers Nelson's Minneapolis side project, The Time.
After a couple of great purple funk LP's, Jam & Lewis decided to branch out to writing and production for the girl band Klymaxx on Solar. Soon after they wrote and produced the 80's anthem "Just be good to me" for the SOS Band and the rest is history.
Through the 80's they wrote and produced some of the greatest RnB tunes for the likes of Alexander O Neal, Janet Jackson, Patti Austin, Thelma Houston. Through the 90's there was Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant, the Sound of Blackness. Through the Noughties there was Usher, Chaka Khan, Earth Wind and Fire.
I can't scrape the surface of their extensive writing and production credits with a mix, so save to say these are just a FEW of my favourite tunes from them.
To me, they were groundbreaking. They invented a "sound" of their own. They influence the pop/RnB charts to this day with their use of the legendary 808 drum machine, their writing always included great hooks and melody, and they have lasted the test of time.
So, for these reasons, I add FLYTE TYME productions to my great producers list!!
